For a kitten
Why does my kitten bite me when we play?
Play biting is common. Kittens hunt with mouth and claws. Bare hands as toys teach them skin is prey.
Kittens practice hunting with their mouths and claws. Biting during play is common.
It gets worse if you use bare hands as the toy. Finger wrestling teaches them human skin is prey.
Always put a toy between their teeth and your skin. When teeth or claws touch you, go still, remove your hands, and end the game. Biting you stops the fun.
How to stop play-biting
- Use a wand toy or kicker. Keep skin out of reach.
- End the game the instant teeth or claws touch skin.
- Do not punish the bite. Walking away teaches faster than shouting.
Look closer if
- Bites break the skin.
- Biting happens aggressively outside playtime.
- They seem in pain when you touch them.
Ask a vet if one of these shows up. This is not a diagnosis.
The answer stays free. Borzi can log mood and activity with your kitten. It does not decide play biting is pain or illness.
